J.B. Stokley Collection 1925-1960


James B. Stokley Sr. moved to SP in 1925 at the age of 3. He lived at what is now 149 Northern. When the house came up for sale, the neighbor at 153, R. Lucas, bought their house and the Stokley family moved to what is now 202 Northern. When he came back to Wilmington and was married to his wife, Clara, they moved into what is now 2074 Van Buren (then was 2536) until 1960 when they moved to the Pine Valley area. His mother, Lillian Stokley remained in Sunset Park at the corner of Northern & Monroe until 1985

Cyrus D. Hogue Jr. Collection 1924-194x


Cyrus D. Hogue Jr. and his family moved to 2 Central Blvd in Sunset Park in 1924. Mr Hogue accounts his memories of life in Sunset Park in both his book, "The Tangled Mass" as well as his autobiography, "The View From Pew 7 - A Few Memories in the Life of Cyrus D. Hogue". In his autobiography he tells stories of Greenfield Lake, the Sunset Park School, hanging out at the where Sunset Park met the Cape Fear River, and the widening of the Beach Road in the 40's because of the growth of the Shipyards.

Hardy Collection 1941-1962


Linwood & Inez Hardy moved to SP in November of 1941. Linda Hardy was 6 months old at the time. They lived at what is now 2140 Adams Street. In December of 1962 they moved to Pine Valley. The Hardy Collection consists of 2 galleries. There is this photo gallery and the second can be seen as contributions to the New Sunset Park School/Junior High gallery. Linda attended the school for 9 grades.

W.A. Cannon Collection 1913-Present


W.A. Cannon of Garysburg Manufacturing Company out of Burgaw, NC. His home was built around 1913 and he also helped build and bought many other lots in Sunset Park. W.A. Cannon Jr. was in the Oil Business and ran Cannon Oil Co. The Cannon family still resides in the same home on Adams St.

The Dead Alligator in Sunset Park by J.B. Stokley, SrStory by James B. Stokley that was published in "Wilmington Tales - A Treasure of 20th Century Memories". Story mentions him and his family moving to Sunset Park in 1925 and the Sunday he finds an alligator at the base of Northern Blvd at the river. Given permission to use during our interview on 2/1/2008.
